New Self-Sufficiency Standard Information Released by the Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP)
According to CCLP's recently updated Self-Sufficiency Standard, the amount of money required to cover basic needs in Colorado rose 53 percent on a statewide average between 2001 and 2015. Meanwhile, median earnings went up by 18 percent. In short, the cost of living in Colorado increased almost three times as much as wages during the past 14 years.
CCLP released the findings of Colorado's 2015 Self-Sufficiency Standard at a luncheon featuring Dr. Diana Pearce of the Center for Women's Welfare at the University of Washington. Dr. Pearce, who authored the report, spoke in front of several individuals representing organizations that serve Coloradans living in poverty.
